Chopped strand fibreglass grades meet ever more challenging food contact limits

3B has introduced two new grades of chopped strand fibreglass for applications involving food contact.DS 1135-10N is designed for broad range of polyamides (PA), while DS 8800-11P is for reinforcement of high temperature resins.
JEC Composites Exhibition: Roving for wind turbine blades obtains Germanischer Lloyd approval

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has approved HiPer-tex W2020 high-performance direct roving from 3B. This new certification complements the recent GL approval for SE2020 single end reinforcements. Both benchmark products benefit from proprietary sizings developed for use with specific resin systems (epoxy) principally for the manufacturing of non-crimped fabrics and FRP laminates for applications in, but not exclusively, wind turbine blades.
World’s lightest material made of hollow carbon structures

A team from the Technical University of Hamburg and Germany’s University of Kiel has developed a new material composed of 0.01% carbon structures by volume. The remaining structure is air. The material, dubbed aerographite, has a density of less than 0.2mg/cm3. The next lightest material, metallic microlattice, has a density of 0.9mg/cm3.
3B wins three innovation awards
