With their high short-term thermal resistance, these resins can withstand temperatures which occur in surface-mount reflow or through-hole soldering with lead-free solders—up to 265°C. A new grade of DuPont Vamac ethylene acrylic elastomer delivers multiple benefits as an impact modifier for adhesives, coatings and other thermoset resin systems. Called Vamac MR, it can improve impact resistance, flexibility at low temperatures and high-temperature resistance in applications such as cyanoacrylate adhesives, phenolic resin formulations and flexible epoxy circuit board coatings. The new modifier is thermally stable up to 280ºC. It is an amorphous polymer with a sub-zero glass transition temperature (-30ºC), resulting in very good low-temperature flexibility. Unlike other Vamac grades, Vamac MR has no added chemicals which can impact adhesive performance. |

The component consists of two ring-shaped plastic parts joined by eight titanium rods. The plastic parts, made of DuPont Delrin 150 acetal resin, are over-molded onto the rods. The isolator is mounted on a sleeve that mates with the propeller shaft. When the engine is shifted into gear, the isolator functions as a torque spring, absorbing the difference in rotational energy between the shaft of the propeller, which at the instant of shifting is turning lazily in the water, and the engine's drive gears, which are spinning at 264 rpm. |

The company has installed three rows of large photovoltaic solar panels to convert the sun's energy into electricity for an existing R&D and business facility at the site. The complex part, about 40 cm long and moulded to close tolerances, maintains its vital functional properties even though it works while immersed in gear oil at up to 140 °C. A flexible printed circuit, based on the DuPont Pyralux system, connects the electronics with the magnetic valves and with various sensors and floats which are also mounted on the shift plate. Recent tests of injection molded samples of high-density polyethylene with just 25 percent wood demonstrate that very small amounts of Fusabond W PC-576D can produce improvements in tensile strength and flex strength compared with composites containing no coupling agent.
