Second hot-dip coating line to be built in China

ThyssenKrupp Steel, Duisburg, and ANSC Angang New Steel Co, Anshan, are to build a second hot-dip coating line on the site of their joint venture TAGAL in Dalian in the north of China. The decision was taken by the two companies in April; the contracts with the equipment manufacturer CMI and consortium partners Siemens and Drever were signed today in Anshan. Construction work commenced already.

Program Future: ThyssenKrupp Steel rejuvenates workforce by retention of 1.000 finished apprentices

ThyssenKrupp Steel AG is to cut the working time of its tariff employees from 35 to 34 hours a week. This will make a significant contribution to the necessary rejuvenation of the workforce. Over the full term of the agreement up until 2013, 500 new jobs will be created and a total of 1,000 additional finished apprentices will be retained. The agreement was concluded between the company, the general works council, the union IG Metall and the employer association.

Major order for DAVEX lightweight profiles

ThyssenKrupp DAVEX GmbH has supplied around 52,000 meters of DAVEX lightweight profiles for the new logistics center of Rhenus Logistics on the Logport site in Duisburg. The profiles are used as horizontal beams in a high-bay storage system offering space for 34,000 pallets.

ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme GmbH is to supply 80,000 square meters of Thermodach construction elements with Triplex joints for a new plant of the South African chipboard manufacturer PG Bison Ltd. The elements will be used to build the roofs of a multi-section building complex for the plant’s production facilities.

PLADUR-Wrinkle for steel roof tiles

ThyssenKrupp Steel AG. The Profit Center specializes in organic finishes, paint or polymer films applied to steel sheet by coil coating. PLADUR-Wrinkle is a paint coating that owes its name to its special wrinkly surface. The finish gives the steel the appearance of ceramic roof tiles. PLADUR-Wrinkle is used among other things for sandwich panels and profiled steel sheets for roofing.

Clemens Busch, a winegrower in the German town of Pünderich, is currently breathing new life into a wine area that was regarded as one of the most valuable on the River Mosel in the 19th century. Rothenpfad is the name of the extremely steep vineyard, over one hectare in size, where Busch is now intending to plant vines for a superior Riesling. Neuwied-based Agozal Oberflächenveredelung GmbH is ensuring that the vines will have the stability they need over the coming decades.

TriBond: Innovative composite with tailored properties

ThyssenKrupp Steel AG developed its new three-layer composite TriBond in collaboration with C.D. Wälzholz, one of Germany’s leading cold rolling operations. TriBond combines the properties of different steel grades, such as wear resistance and good formability, in one material.

ThyssenKrupp Tailored Strips open up new possibilities

ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks GmbH is opening up further areas of application for its steel tailored products with the introduction of new, 1,200 millimeter wide tailored strips. While the previously available tailored strips in widths of up to 700 millimeters were mainly used for weight-optimized profiles, the new product has been specially developed for use in progressive/compound dies, used by auto manufacturers and suppliers to produce roof frames, roof cross rails and seat cross members among other parts.

Accelerated time to production with TEM

The path from part design to stable production is a long one. But thanks to ThyssenKrupp Steel Extrapolation Method this path is now a little shorter, at least in the area of sheet metal forming. TEM is a new computational model which can greatly reduce the amount of testing required to determine material characteristics. At the same time it offers significantly more realistic data than previous commonly used formulae.

EBA 2 in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth back in operation

Electrolytic coating line 2 in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth, which was badly damaged by fire on September 14, 2005, has been put back into operation. Following the fire, a reconstruction strategy had to be drawn up which received approval. EBA 2 specializes in extremely high-quality products for the auto industry, such as thin film coated sheet. It is planned to equip the line with modules for further innovative coating technologies in the future.

ThyssenKrupp DAVEX and ems Isoliersysteme: New approach to cold room construction

Ems Isoliersysteme GmbH and ThyssenKrupp DAVEX GmbH are demonstrating a new approach to cold room construction at Bau, using a walk-in freezer as an example. On the ThyssenKrupp Steel booth the two companies will be showing how cold storage rooms can be built at lower cost using continuously manufactured insulating panels. The concept is based on using innovative roll-joined DAVEX profiles as connecting elements for insulating panels manufactured by ems.

ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme GmbH now supplies complete window frames for its isowand integral construction elements. Developed in cooperation with a window manufacturer, the frames are made of thermal break aluminum profiles precisely tailored to the specific joint geometry and dimensions of the isowand integral elements. This allows both single and strip windows to be flush-mounted in steel facades.

Pearl effect: Beauty in the eye of the beholder

Anti-graffiti facade elements from ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme

Anyone building a house wants it to keep looking as good as new for as long as possible. That's why the company Straub Etiketten GmbH chose an anti-graffiti coating for the facade of its new factory building in Fehrbellin in the German state of Brandenburg. This new surface not only provides protection against graffiti artists, it also stays cleaner longer than conventional steel facades and is easier to clean. The only supplier of steel construction elements with anti-graffiti coating is ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme GmbH, headquartered in Kreuztal in Germany's Siegerland region.

Ski Dubai: Insulating panels and DAVEX beams for skiing at plus 40 degrees

Isocab N.V., a Belgian-based subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, and ThyssenKrupp DAVEX GmbH, Gelsenkirchen, have supplied insulating panels and facade beams for an indoor ski resort in Dubai. The resort in the United Arab Emirates' biggest city was opened to the public in January. The insulating panels, developed for cold room construction, were used for the interior walls and roof of the indoor skiing center. ThyssenKrupp DAVEX supplied its innovative DAVEX beams for a glass facade.

The line can process steels with strengths of up to 1,400 megapascals and was installed in response to increasing demand from automotive customers for high-strength steels.

New steel construction elements with roofing tile look

Isowelle Dach, the sandwich element for pitched roofs from ThyssenKrupp Hoesch Bausysteme, is now available with a new wrinkle coating. Wrinkle coatings are textured color coatings which give steel construction elements a similar appearance to ceramic roofing tiles. Compared with existing matt coatings, the surfaces are also less sensitive to dirt and easier to clean. Isowelle Dach elements with wrinkle finish are available in red or black, the classic colors for roofing tiles.

More economical: DAVEX lightweight profiles for drywall construction and high bay storage

Same strength, lower weight, lower cost: the new lightweight profiles from ThyssenKrupp DAVEX GmbH. The Gelsenkirchen-based company has developed double-T profiles of thin steel sheet for use in drywall construction, storage systems and lightweight load-bearing steel structures. The DAVEX lightweight profiles offer the same strength as conventional beams but weigh up to 50 percent less. As they use less material, ThyssenKrupp DAVEX GmbH can offer its products at lower cost.

Cold room panels for a new event concept

A 'showcase for high-end design', that's how Frankfurt's trade show organizers are promoting the new international event 'The Design Annual', to be staged in the Frankfurt Festhalle from May 6 to 20. With their concept for the exhibition booths, architects Reed Kram and Clemens Weißhaar are hoping to set international standards for future shows in the design sector. A major element in this will be 2,700 square meters of PU 220 insulating panels from ThyssenKrupp Steel subsidiary ems Isoliersysteme GmbH.

New laser optical element for welding tailored blanks

A working group from ThyssenKrupp Steel AG led by Stefan Wischmann has won the 'Lasertechnik 2006' Innovation Award for the development of a new laser welding optical element. Wischmann (34) heads the Beam and Sensor Technology department in the Auto division of ThyssenKrupp Steel. He and his team developed the innovative Beam Control Optic to provide greater precision, quality and productivity in the laser welding of non-linear tailored blanks. Wischmann received the award, presented biennially by 'Arbeitskreis Lasertechnik e.V.', in the 'Aula Carolina' in Aachen.

New dust collection system for sinter belt 3 in operation

Step by step, ThyssenKrupp Stahl is carrying out the €62 million investment agreed with the North Rhine-Westphalian Environment Ministry in April 2001 to reduce dust pollution in the north of Duisburg. €15 million of the total was invested in an encapsulation and dust collection system for sinter belt 3 in Schwelgern.

Green light for continued pursuit of steel mill project in Brazil

The supervisory bodies of ThyssenKrupp have endorsed the continued pursuit of the project to build a steel mill in Brazil. Based on the findings of the feasibility study and having reached agreement on key fundamental areas of the steel mill project, the supervisory boards discussed the project and unanimously reached a positive assessment. Final decisions will be made at their next meetings after clarification of various external factorrs.

Schwelgern dock Duisburg, World s most modern, cleanest coking plant goes into operation

A mammoth project is complete: After a construction period lasting just under three years the first battery of the new coking plant at Schwelgern harbor in Duisburg went into operation on March 13, the second battery will follow in roughly three months. The owner CARBONARIA Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. and the plant managing company KBS Kokereibetriebsgesellschaft Schwelgern GmbH celebrated the official opening together with guests from politics and public life as well as representatives of ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG, the coking plant's main customer.

Since 1999, Dinslaken/Germany-based ThyssenKrupp Bausysteme has been offering a unique modular solar energy system based on steel profiles which not only provides a simple method of renovating facades and roofs but also gives buildings a new look in colors matched to their surroundings, architecture and use, while at the same time generating electricity from the sun's rays. World's most advanced cold rolling mill in operation in Duisburg

'TAKO', the most advanced cold rolling mill of its kind in the world, has been in operation at the Duisburg-Beeckerwerth facility of ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG since March 26, 2001. The new mill, which took just under two years to build at a cost of almost €150 million, was officially inaugurated on April 3, 2001. 'This major investment will significantly boost the competitiveness of our Duisburg location and thus ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG as a whole', said TKS chief executive Dr. Wolfgang Kohler before the customers and representatives from the worlds of business and politics invited to the inauguration ceremony.
