The International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) has just published the latest in the Innovations in Steel series of brochures. Entitled 'Fire Safety in Multi-storey Buildings', the brochure contains a comprehensive overview of fire safety in public buildings built of steel. The inherent properties of steel, combined with active and passive protection systems, make it an ideal and affordable material to meet fire regulations around the world.

Entitled 'Fire Safety in Multi-storey Buildings', the brochure contains a comprehensive overview of fire safety in public buildings built of steel. The inherent properties of steel, combined with active and passive protection systems, make it an ideal and affordable material to meet fire regulations around the world.'Fire Safety in Multi-storey Buildings' provides a detailed summary of the available fire safety protection systems that can be used with steel. Active systems (such as sprinklers) and passive protection systems (such as intumescent or non flammable coatings) are featured. The brochure contains more than 20 practical examples that show how steel has been used to meet and exceed fire-safety standards in public buildings. The featured buildings use a combination of steel with active, passive and both active and passive systems. The buildings featured in the brochure include hospitals, schools, office buildings, car parks, apartment buildings, and warehouses. Each article contains general information about the project as well as specific fire safety details for each building. Other brochures in the 'Innovations in Steel' series cover such varied topics as the use of steel in industrial buildings, sports structures, bridges, residential construction, passenger stations, shopping centres and multi-storey buildings.
