High-performance flexible power sources have gained attention, especially for bendable, implantable, and wearable electronic systems. Although the rechargeable lithium-ion battery (LIB) has been regarded as a strong candidate for a high-performance flexible energy source, compliant electrodes for bendable LIBs are restricted to only a few materials, and their performance has not been sufficient for them to be applied to flexible consumer electronics including rollable displays.
 
Electrolyte containing nanocrystals raises fuel cell efficiency

The addition of extremely small crystals to solid electrolyte material has the potential to considerably raise the efficiency of fuel cells. Researchers at TU Delft were the first to document this accurately, and their second article on the subject in a very short time has now been published in the scientific journal, Advanced Functional Materials.

Devices offer direct battery operation and choice of configurations

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. an 80.4%-owned subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today released a family of new analog switches designed for direct battery operation in portable applications. Offering low on-resistance and low-level logic control through the full voltage range of 1.6 V to 4.3 V, the new switches are aimed at end products including cell phones, set-top boxes, PDAs, and media players.
