New adhesives and sealants technical Center in Taloja, India

Rohm & Haas Co : 05 August, 2004  (New Product)
Rohm and Haas Company, USA, today inaugurated a commercial-scale Combi Laminator during opening ceremonies for their new Adhesives and Sealants Technical Center in Taloja, India. The new center is expected to significantly enhance the company's capabilities for technical service and product development support for customers throughout the region.
Harish Badami, Rohm and Haas India Country Manager, and Mark Maguire, General Manager for Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants in the Asia Pacific region, welcomed guests to the event, among them executives representing numerous regional packaging converters, end-users, co-suppliers, and official representatives from local plastics and packaging institutes.

The Taloja Technical Center is located on the site of Rohm and Haas' main adhesives manufacturing facility in Asia. Opened in August 2003, the company's Taloja plant produces polyurethane, polyester, and water-based adhesive formulations for flexible packaging applications; acrylic emulsions for pressure-sensitive adhesives; along with a full range of water-based latex emulsion polymers for use in paints and coatings, and for construction, leather, textile and non-woven applications.

In welcoming remarks, Harish Badami observed, 'The opening of our new technical center coincides with the first anniversary of our Taloja plant. Since start-up, this facility has provided both the domestic Indian customers and export markets with quality adhesives and coating products and services. We are especially pleased that it is a reliable sourcing point for supply of adhesives to over 15 countries in the region and an integral part of our global supply-chain network.' Total annual plant capacity at Taloja is 35,000 metric tonnes.

Advanced Schiavi-Bobst Combi Coater
The new technical center houses a Schiavi-Bobst Combi Coater, dedicated to supporting trials and product development efforts of packaging and converting customers, end-users, and co-suppliers in India and throughout Asia. The new equipment provides accurate simulation of industrial conditions for testing and evaluation and is equipped to coat solventless and dry laminating adhesives, including Rohm and Haas's new-generation water-based adhesives. At the opening ceremony, ROBOND L90D water-based adhesive was successfully run at a speed of over 250 mpm.

'Our continuing investments in technical resources in this region enable us to provide outstanding service to the flexible packaging industry,' said Mark Maguire, Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants General Manager for the region. 'Each of our four technical centers in Asia is equipped with lab-scale coaters that allow quick and representative evaluation of adhesives prior to testing on commercial machines,' he added. Other Rohm and Haas technical centers in Asia are located in China, Singapore, and Australia. Experts in each of the technical centers provide field service and laboratory testing support. The company also has sophisticated multi-purpose coater/laminators at technical centers in Ringwood, Illinois, USA; Bremen, Germany; Jacarei, Brazil; and Mozzate, Italy.
