New Moog TMC-4 means higher quality and productivity

Moog Controls : 05 August, 2006  (New Product)
Moog will be introducing its new Total Machine Controller, TMC-4, for blow molding machines at the K Show. Moog displays will be at Booth No. 10-J04 in Hall 10. The TMC-4, the fourth generation design of this proven controller design, allows the user to easily operate all types of blow-molding machines, accurately and without expensive training.

The TMC-4 controls all blow-molding machines for either continuous extrusion or accumulator head operations. This applies to new machinery as well as the upgrading of existing systems. It is possible to control and regulate large and high-speed blow-molding machines, as well as systems for packaging and technical components machines.

For consistent product quality, operational sequences in blow molding must be precisely controlled. This leads to a high level of reproducibility, quality consistency, process acceleration, and saving money due to productivity improvement.

The main benefits of the new TMC-4 include:

Standard Screen and Operating System: The control unit is based on an industrial PC with a Windows XP embedded operating system, offering ease-of use and requiring minimal training. One benefit is increased reliability as the unit can operate without a hard drive so that it is not susceptible to vibrations from the surrounding machinery.
Flexible Function Keys: The control unit features a section for customers to assign function keys for easily customizing the keyboard. The existing keyboard is also tailored to the operation of a blow-molding machine, with a clear and logical design.
Networking: An interface for an external standard keyboard allows for convenient parameter changes and access to help menus. All the interfaces of a standard PC including Ethernet are integrated. The front panel features a USB 2.0 interface that allows for easily saving machine and product parameters as well as screen prints (hard copy).

Compactness: Compact dimensions allow for integrating the control panel in existing terminal systems.

Easy Operation and Troubleshooting: Each regulated axis, whether wall thickness or movement, features a service page. The integrated digital voltmeter with bar display allows for quickly localizing any interference source during commissioning and troubleshooting.

Customized Upgrading: Additional functions can be modified or expanded from Moog or programmed by the customer. The necessary programming tool can be purchased upon request.

Cost Savings: An integrated weight control allows for additional savings of material.
Hardware and software were both upgraded in the new 4th generation design, allowing the operator to recognize the functionality of the predecessor versions as well as major improvements. This allows the user to continue to operate easily with little training. The defined parameters are saved to state-of-the-art external storage media. If maintenance or service is needed, a remote function allows for quickly providing help without any extended down time. The acquisition of operating data and machine data can be handled via remote queries.

“The TMC-4’s flexible and digital closed-loop control concept allows faster movements and therefore higher productivity of your machine,” confirmed Eberhart Veil, Moog’s development engineer for controls.
