New series of TIG torches from ESAB

ESAB Group : 26 June, 2002  (New Product)
ESAB's new BTF Series TIG welding torches mark a major improvement over the previous BTD range. There are five BTF torch sizes available, including three air-cooled and two water-cooled models. Key advantages of the new torches are quality, comfort, flexibility and high operational capacity. For instance, all models can be equipped with a gas lens to optimise shielding, with consequent improvement in weld quality and reduced gas consumption.

In order to improve ergonomics, ESAB has dimensioned the power/water cables to maximise physical flexibility and transmission capacity; durability is enhanced by a wear resistant cable sheath. The new hose arrangements make BTF water cooled torches the coolest running water-cooled TIG torches available. This ensures long service life and ease of manipulation. In addition, hose bundle length has available in 4 metre and 8 metre variants.

Torch bodies are moulded in durable, wear resistant silicon rubber. All feature a new type of trigger which is easy to activate both laterally and under pressure. It has also proved possible to reduce the component count, reducing spares inventories and costs.

There are three air cooled torches available with ratings of 140A, 150A and 200A. BTF 140 is available in two models; the BTF 140V has a manual gas valve and is suitable for scrape start with Caddy/Caddytig. BTF 140VS has a gas valve and switch for use with older Caddytig 150 power sources. Both are available with OKC 25 connection.

BTF 150 and BTF 200 models are available with central connection as well as OKC, for which V-suffixed derivatives are available Both are also available as F-suffixed flexible head models for difficult access situations.

The water cooled range comprises BTF 250W and BTF 400W which offer ratings of 250A and 400A AC respectively. This rises to 280A and 450A in DC mode. Both are available with either OKC or central connection. BTF 250W has a small, compact torch head and is well suited to production welding where flexibility is desirable. BTF 400W, as the most powerful torch in the range, is aimed at heavy welding applications where performance and reliability are a must.
