New Vishay Z201 ultra-performance bulk Metal foil resistor

The first resistor product to offer a temperature coefficient of resistance of 0.2 ppm/C (-55 C to +125C), an industry breakthrough, has been announced by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The new Vishay Z201 Bulk Metal foil resistor combines the lowest ever TCR withtolerance to 0.005%. The new Z201 ultra-performance aerospace andinstrumentation resistor, housed in a through-hole package, will be used for precision analog applications in test and measurement equipment, telecommunication test circuits, process control, and guidance circuits.

Built on Vishay's proprietary foil technology, the Z201 series is the third in a series of ultra-precision resistors since the first Bulk Metal foil resistor was introduced by Vishay in 1962. Its nominal TCR was reduced to -0.2 ppm/C from -55C to +25C and +0.2 ppm/C from +25C to +125C. This is a five-fold TCR improvement over the best previously available foil resistor and a ten-fold improvement over standard foil resistors.

The TCR is obtained by the process capability and does not rely on a selection process. It does not vary from lot to lot nor by ohmic value.

The Z201 has load-life stability of 0.005% 2000 hours at 0.1 W a resistance range of 100 Ω to 100 kΩ; a power rating of 0.6 W at 70C (0.3 W at 125C); current noise of 0.01 μV/V (RMS) max; and thermal EMF of 0.1 μV/C max (0.05 typical). It offers high-frequency operation with rise/decay time of 1.0 ns at 1 kΩ; inductance of 0.1 μH maximum (0.08 μh typical); and capacitance of 1.0 pF maximum (0.5pF typical).

Because of its specifications, the Z201 will reduce solution costs, allowing designers to rely on consistent resistor performance to overcome the limitations of other components and to reduce the need for end product testing.

Samples and production quantities of the Z201 are available now, with lead times of up to 8 weeks for larger orders.
