Porous metal products for medical filtration

Mott Corporation : 22 January, 2010  (Technical Article)
Design engineers in the Medical Device industry and other industries, utilise porous metal media primarily because of their precise consistency and durability.
Porous metal products for medical filtration
Products using porous metal offer exceptional performance, long life, and accuracy. Some products currently utilising porous metal include various implantable devices, filters to prevent plugging of catheters, drug delivery devices, medical instrumentation, sparging devices for cell culture processing, and gas flow restrictor devices for gas delivery in life-critical systems.

Products from Mott are produced using a wide variety of metal alloys to meet the requirements of many demanding applications. Primary alloys used for medical devices are titanium and 316L stainless steels.

In addition to porous metal offering unique design and performance benefits, porous metal can help with green credentials. Mott sintered porous metal media can also be completely recycled; an important attribute as we look for ways to conserve on the consumption of resources, energy and space used in landfills.

Mott has a specialised team of experts who work specifically with medical device designers, engineers, and manufacturers on projects. “Porous metal is not a commodity. It is an engineered material that allows us to provide specialized solutions and custom designs. The medical industry comes to Mott for application innovation and fresh ideas when it comes to exacting flow control and filtration,” says Joe Follo, Manager of Mott’s Specialty Porous Sales Team.

* Mott Corporation will display filtration products, flow control products and porous metal technology at the MD&M West tradeshow taking place in Anaheim, CA on February 9-11, 2010.
