Custom compounder RTP Company, Winona, MN, announces that as of December 18th, 2002, it will begin offering for sale long fiber reinforced thermoplastics with fiber loadings above 30% by volume. RTP Company had been manufacturing and selling LFRT products below 30% by volume fiber content up to this date.

According to Bob Wick, Product Manager-Structural Materials for RTP Company, 'RTP Company has been manufacturing LFRT compounds since the 1980's and a recently expired patent now allows RTP Company to offer a complete line of LF products. The expired patent had only affected a minor portion of our LF business, but had a negative effect on the market place in general. We are pleased to announce that as of today, a full line of LF products will again be offered. We have customers anxious to place orders with RTP Company for our expanded product line. The bottom line is that this is a win for our customers and for the market place as a whole.'

As a custom compounder, RTP Company is capable of manufacturing a wide spectrum of LFRT products to meet customers' exact needs. RTP Company's LFRT products are currently available in over 15 different resin systems and various different fibers and are supplied in 50 lb. bags, 1,000 lb. gaylords, and bulk trucks. They can be formulated to provide secondary properties such as: wear resistance, flame retardancy, conductivity, and can also be colored. The market place and RTP Company's customers can anticipate a whole new host of LF products containing much higher fiber loadings to meet metal replacement and cost reduction needs. RTP Company management is planning LF capacity expansions to meet its increased demands.
