New HDPE for caps and closures made using the unique bimodal Borstar® process offers greater quality and improved economics for converters

Two new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) grades, based on Borealis’ proprietary Borstar process, have been developed especially by Borealis for beverage caps and closures offering converters greater security, better quality and more favourable economics.

The Borstar-based closures exhibit outstanding environmental stress crack resistance, well-balanced mechanical properties, and can be produced by injection or compression moulding. The new bi-modal HDPE grades are particularly suited to beverage closures for carbonated soft drinks and sparkling water.

Qualtech (France), a highly-regarded, independent testing lab, supports Borealis’ own panel test which rates Borstar materials as very good in organoleptic properties, including freedom from objectionable taste or odour.

Beverage closure solutions have evolved to meet productivity improvements required to respond to growing worldwide consumption of bottled beverages, combined with increasing concern over bottle and closure security and safety. These new Borstar grades (MB6561 and MB6562) offer processing properties that enable optimised cap design without compromising safety.
