HONEYWELL LINKS UP WITH MATERIALISE: PROTOTYPES AND CUSTOMISED PLASTICS, ON-LINE ON REQUEST.
06 June 2002 - Materialise NV

The Belgian prototype provider Materialise and Honeywell International Inc. have teamed up to offer web-based services to reduce product development cycles.

On-line prototypes, on-line plastics.
Materialise, well known in the designers' world, debuted the Next Day service in December '97. Product designers, always short of time, receive their plastic model already the next day on their desk. By offering on-line quoting and ordering possibilities for plastic prototypes, this Next Day e-commerce service has been proven very successful.
The collaboration with Honeywell Plastics will extend this service even more. Honeywell's launch of MyResinPro.com™ Custom Compound Resource Center is the perfect match to Materialise Next Day. Users will not only be able to receive and evaluate their prototypes in a very short time period, the direct link from the Next Day service to My ResinPro.com offers the possibility that designers 'customise' their desired material too.

5 days from material request to sample...
Until now compromises in product design and mechanical properties have been a fact of the design engineers life. With the introduction of MyResinPro the designer can now log on to the service and submit a material specification and/or colour match. The technical service at Honeywell reviews the specification and manufactures a sample batch of custom material to meet the desired material specification. The service is completely free and with just five days from request to sample compromises in product design will be a thing of the past.
The combination of both revolutionary systems - on-line prototypes and on-line plastics, will be a major benefit to all product designers in finding the right material and the right parts.

...and 4 weeks to sample components in the right material.
Over the last 3 years Materialise has developed its own Magics Rapid Tooling software reducing the design lead-time for plastic injection mould tools, inserts and EDM electrodes from days to hours. High speed machining of the tools direct from the 3D data again reduces the lead-time for programming and machining of mould tool components. With an average lead-time of just 4 weeks - with some tools sampled within 6 working days - for prototype and low volume tools (up to 100 000 parts), Materialise meets the challenges of Honeywell complimenting the rapid response from MyResinPro.
Now with the link up between MyResinPro Custom Compound Resource Center at Honeywell and the unique approach to tool design and manufacture by Materialise, a product can have custom resins manufactured and sample components produced in just 4 weeks.

About: Materialise NV
Begun as a joint venture with the University of Leuven-Belgium, Materialise was one of the first European rapid prototyping service bureaus. It has since grown into a European supplier of plastic prototype solutions, and today is a worldwide leader in the rapid prototyping industry. Materialise offers a broad range of rapid prototyping, tooling and digital CAD software. In addition, Materialise prototypes and software have established a reputation in medicine and dentistry, with clinicians the world over using them in the most complex surgical cases. Its design products division concentrates on the development of rapid manufacturing. The company is privately owned with several subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and the USA, and employs over 300 people in its 4 divisions.

* Materialise Industrial Services to "materialise" technical prototypes and small series through the most advanced prototyping and tooling techniques.
* Materialise Software to develop the technical software applications that allow a more efficient use of the rapid prototyping techniques.
* Materialise Medical to create medical models using these prototyping techniques and to develop medical software packages that are used by clinicians worldwide to assist them in the most complex cases of surgery.
* Materialise.MGX to manufacture design products for the end-user market. MGX is the youngest division and it draws on the knowledge and expertise of the prototyping division.
