PLASTICS PIPES XII, MILAN BREAKS NEW RECORDS

For the first time in its history the Conference was wholly organized by the industry itself in the form of The Plastics Pipes Conferences Association (PPCA) which is supported by three organizations, PVC4Pipes, PE100+ Association and the Plastics Pipe Institute from the USA.

Dr David Walton from Borealis AB in Sweden who is a Co-Chairman of the conference states:

“It is very satisfying for the Conference Organising Committee, who has put in so many hours of extra work, to see such a good response. It is particularly important to see that the industry is committed to development and innovation.”

Prior to the conference a small workshop has been organized primarily for the newcomers to the plastics pipes industry to help their basic understanding of the important factors and of course aid them to get a better understanding of the conference itself.

The conference itself opened on Tuesday 20 April by a presentation from Dr. Andrea Lolli who is the President of Federgasaqua, an organization which represents all the major utility and municipality companies in Italy. He addressed the main issues and challenges resulting from the liberalisation of the local public companies in Italy. This was followed by Dr M. Bosetti from AEM S.p.A. who are the leading energy company in Northern Italy and serve 860,000 gas customers in the Milan area. Dr. Bosetti’s presentation was followed by papers from key industry figures discussed the future demand and investment in raw materials and plastic pipe and fittings production.

After this first session the conference divided into two sessions and over one hundred papers were presented from experts from all over the world over the remaining two and half days. A particular feature was the number of practical case stories brought additional knowledge and technical information to the design engineers, installers and system managers attending the conference.

Prior to the Conference, Robin Bresser Marketing Manager from Borealis AB and the Financial Director of the PPCA states:

“We sincerely hope that the Conference will be a resounding success and provide a firm platform for future conferences and other educational events which will be organized by the PPCA”

Borealis presented a number of papers at the conference with the emphasis firmly on to the good practical experience with polyolefin materials:

VI. New possibilities for silane PEX materials using a novel crosslinking catalyst system and innovative PE resins. M. Palmlof (Borealis AB) & C. Quaretta (Giacomini S.p.A)
