LLOYD INSTRUMENTS LAUNCHES NEW POLYMER TEST EQUIPMENT
29 March 2007 - Lloyd Instruments

First opportunity in the People’s Republic of China to see Lloyd Instruments’ versatile new EXPlus extensometer and the recently upgraded Davenport HDT/Vicat measurement instrument. Another recent announcement has been the availability of Davenport Melt Viscometer for PET with full compatibility with the company’s powerful Windows-based NEXYGEN-Davenport polymer test and data analysis software. Also on show at Chinaplas are the LFPlus single column test instrument, and the MFI-10 melt flow indexer.

The EXPlus extensometers are available in two travel lengths, 250 mm and 800 mm and allow the accurate extension measurement of materials such as semi-rigid plastics, elastomers and rubbers. The EX800Plus extensometer is shown on an LRXPlus low force single column materials testing machine. The new extensometers can, however, be fitted to any of the company’s EZ and Plus Series of materials testing machines for testing up to 150 kN. They are used to test high elongation materials to yield and break in full accordance with ISO 9513: 2002.

The Davenport HDT/VICATPlus instrument is used to test plastic material for Heat Distortion Temperature and VICAT, a measure of the temperature at which plastic starts to soften rapidly. With six independent test stations, the instrument now features an improved design to further enhance protection for operators from possible exposure to the heating oil used in the system.

The Davenport Melt Viscometer already offers significant cost and environmental benefits for PET testing, using a unique solvent-free method for routine testing of the melt viscosity and intrinsic viscosity of PET. The instrument now has the added benefit of being fully compatible NEXYGEN-Davenport polymer test and data analysis software. The updated version of the instrument interfaces with computers running Windows 2000 or XP operating systems.

The LFPlus and LRXPlus machines provide versatile materials testing capabilities for tensile, compression, flexural and friction testing applications at forces up to 1 kN, and 5 kN respectively. All of the instruments on show can be operated under computer control with the company’s NEXYGEN MT control and analysis software.

The Davenport MFI-10 melt flow indexer is an intelligent modular system, which allows fully automatic measurement of the melt flow rate of a polymer. It can be used both by resin manufacturers and processors such as extruders and injection moulders to measure the melt flow rate and melt volume rate of thermoplastics before use in the manufacturing process.
