AXXICON INTRODUCES X-TECHNOLOGY FOR NEW OPTICAL DISC FORMATS AND HIGH SPEEDS
11 April 2007 - Axxicon Mould Technology
| Axxicon’s technical leadership in optical disc moulding, the new STX and SFX moulds enable efficient and highly cost effective production of the latest DVD formats. |
Axxicon’s new ‘X-technology’ consists of a number of innovations to increase the performance of the moulding process and improve disc quality. For example new materials are used for perfect thermal stability between moving mould parts, resulting in an improved operating window. In addition, new coatings ensure improved disc quality and longer lifetime of the moulds and stamper. A new finishing process is also used for critical mould parts for perfect mechanical disc properties and maximum reliability of mould operation, even at very fast cycle times. Leading-edge technology and simple to use Following the success of the Axxicon ST and SF moulds, Axxicon has continued to apply leading edge technology while still keeping the use of its moulds simple. For example, the patented mould-guiding system as used in the current mould generations gives the best possible accuracy for mould centering during the entire molding process. This is essential to ensure a highly accurate and consistent moulding process with excellent ECC values. At the same time simplicity is increased: the guiding system is free of maintenance and spare parts requirements. High disc quality and big operating window Mr Guido Leenknegt, Regional Manager of Axxicon Moulds HK adds: “With our new STX and SFX moulds for the HD-DVD format, Axxicon’s innovations offer significant benefits to disc manufacturers. They ensure excellent HD DVD disc quality, and as always these moulds come with an in-house developed moulding process, which is optimized for each downstream. This results in a big operating window together with fast cycle times, as our customers expect from Axxicon.” Platform for new DVD format developments STX and SFX technology will also be the new platform for further DVD format development such as high-speed DVD-recordable and Blu-ray, as well as for meeting the continuous market demand for cycle time reductions. Axxicon moulds are already fully qualified for DVD-R 16x, and the capability to run cycle times of 2.0 seconds for DVD prerecorded has been successfully tested. Wide choice of injection moulding machines Another benefit of Axxicon’s moulds is that the stamper can be mounted on the moving side (ST series) or on the fixed side (SF series) of the mould. Axxicon offers the simplest handling for each line manufacturer and a wider choice of suitable injection moulding machines. Axxicon moulds are currently running in production on Singulus Emould, Netstal, Toyo, Sumitomo, JSW, Nissei and Meiki moulding machines. World leader in Standardized Mould Systems Axxicon Moulds Eindhoven is the world leader in Standardized Mould Systems for the production of optical discs for data storage. The Axxicon CD mould was first developed in the 1980s, and Axxicon now has a proven track record in developing moulds for all optical disc formats, both prerecorded and recordable. Introduced in 2002, the ST mould has become the benchmark for DVD-9 and DVD-R production, and today Axxicon continues to drive innovation with the latest STX and SFX moulds. Axxicon Moulds in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, is fully dedicated to Optical Disc developments and offers its customers an outstanding and highly personal worldwide after-sales-service through its facilities in Eindhoven, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
