AN INNOVATION IN TEXTILE PRINTING MATERIALS AT LATIN AMERICAN TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE
09 April 2007 - Dow Corning - EEI
| Dow Corning Corporation Chemist Engineer Fernando Martins will present, “An Innovation in Textile Printing Materials” at the Federación Latinoamericana de Químicos Y Coloristas Textiles’ XVIII Latin American Congress of Textile Chemistry and the VI National Congress of Textile Technology. |
Martins’ presentation, will provide an overview of the screen printing market and its production challenges. It will also review the development and testing of Dow Corning 9601 Textile Printing Ink, a new, innovative and non-toxic silicone solution with wide-ranging applications in the textile industry. In addition, he will share performance data comparing this product with conventional screen printing inks including PVC, PA and other silicones. Manual screen printing technology is widely used in the textile industry and represents a large growth opportunity for manufacturers of sportswear and casual apparel. However, many of today’s printing materials have serious drawbacks, such as inferior wash durability, poor hand feel and tackiness, that have limited their use, particularly in high-end apparel applications. In addition, some of these inks could contain plasticizers and have other negative environmental effects. Dow Corning 9601 Textile Printing Ink allows apparel manufacturers to capture the full potential of the market for high-quality, screen-printed clothing with an environmentally friendly ink that provides excellent elongation and appearance durability, a semi-gloss finish, good color fastness and a soft, non-tacky handle. According to Martins, 9601 Textile Printing Ink is suitable for manual screen printing processes on most natural and synthetic fabrics including elastic fabrics. Possible applications include jerseys, jackets, hats, gloves, bathing apparel, shirts, sleepwear, children’s clothing and undergarments. Because of its water repellency and good adhesion, the printed and cured fabric is able to withstand multiple washes with no cracking, peeling or flaking. Dow Corning Textiles offers a comprehensive selection of innovative silicon-based performance enhancers and process aids for textiles, leather and nonwovens. In addition to materials, the company provides supportive services and solutions tailored to the specific business needs of the global textile industry.
