DOW CORNING OFFERS TIPS ON FORMULATING WITH SILICONES AND NATURAL LIPIDS
24 April 2007 - Dow Corning - EEI

Natural lipids and silicones offer a variety of benefits and formulation possibilities, and they provide complementary properties in skin and hair care formulations, silicones are good emollients that improve the feel of formulations; lipids are good moisturizers for skin and hair (especially ethnic hair) and can even restore the skin’s barrier function. With equal parts silicone and lipids, formulators can significantly reduce any film residue, greasiness and tackiness.

To help formulators achieve the desired Dow Corning offers a line of lipids stabilized by a natural antioxidant system based on rosemary extract (the HY 4000 series; INCI name: Rosmarinus Officinalis [Rosemary] Leaf Extract); three pre-blended, drop-in concentrated emulsions that incorporate both silicones and natural lipids; as well as conventional lipids (the HY 3000 series) derived from plant seeds, fruit nuts and kernels of mango, kokum, blackcurrant, evening primrose, borage, camelina and shea, mostly from exotic locations.
