DOW CORNING ANNOUNCES NEW IMPACT PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY
29 April 2007 - Dow Corning - EEI
| Dow Corning Corporation, a leading supplier of silicone solutions for the textile industry, will introduce its new, patented impact protection technology, the Dow Corning Active Protection System. |
“For years, manufacturers of high-performance apparel have struggled to develop systems that protect against high-energy impacts without sacrificing flexibility, breathability or ease of use,” says Budden. “Now, they can meet this challenge with the superior defense and comfort provided by the Dow Corning Active Protection System.” Budden’s presentation will review the development and testing of the Active Protection System as well as its potential for wide-ranging applications within the textile industry. In addition, he will share performance data comparing the Active Protection System with other protective apparel armor systems. Budden believes this unique, new technology has potential applications in other industries as well, such as life sciences, civil and military defense, and construction. “The Dow Corning Active Protection System marks a revolutionary advancement in impact protection,” says Budden. “We believe it is the most effective and versatile protective technology available today. The possible applications are virtually unlimited.” The Techtextil-Symposium North America is the industry’s leading educational forum for technical textiles, drawing participation from high-level industry professionals, renowned international specialists and leading industry consultants. Graham Budden has a degree in chemistry from the University of Bristol (UK) as well as research experience at the University of Cambridge (UK). He has broad experience in the use of silicones for the textile industry. For the past 10 years, he has worked on applications of silicone coatings in industrial textiles, in particular those used in automotive airbags. More recently he has extended his experience to the application of silicone materials to prevent personal injury from impact events.
