How can I produce high-temperature paints and protective coatings that have lower VOC levels without sacrificing final coating properties? A Dow Corning study has demonstrated the suitability of high-solids silicone resins in formulating low-VOC, high-performance coatings. Dow Corning’s low-VOC resin options deliver performance that is similar to their high-VOC, low-solids counterparts.

Coatings that employ Dow Corning brand silicone resins gain thermal stability and resistance to outdoor weathering. Performance benefits are generally proportional to the percentage of silicone used, with pure silicone resins offering the greatest protection.

VOC-lowering resin options from Dow Corning

Dow Corning 409 HS Resin is a soft, flexible silanol-functional, solvent-based resin with 80% silicone solids. Typical applications include maintenance paints, colored baking enamels and decorative finishes. Used primarily with metallic pigments. May be used alone or blended with a variety of solvent-based silicone and organic resins.

Dow Corning 431 HS Resin is a medium-hard silanol-functional, solvent-based resin with 80% silicone solids. Typical applications include maintenance paints, colored baking enamels, decorative finishes.

Solid Flake

Dow Corning 220 Resin is a hard, silanol-functional, 100% silicone solids, flake resin. Typically used as a powder coating binder or co-binder to improve heat stability and weatherability and for blending with other silicone resins to reduce VOC content.
