USC LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE CONSUMER HEALTH MAGAZINE
23 May 2007 - University of Southern California
| The new year has launched a new web magazine designed to showcase USC’s health expertise in a consumer-friendly format. USC Health Now, published by the USC Health Sciences Public Relations and Marketing office, provides the latest health news and tips from USC experts in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, gerontology, occupational and physical therapy, business, and law, among other academic arenas on both campuses. |
Each weekly edition features: • a comprehensive news story covering a health topic of interest to consumers • a health question answered by a USC expert on such wide-ranging topics as prescription expirations, weight loss and end of life care • a health tip consumers can use to understand and immediately improve their health or that of their family • a health poll that hones in on important health questions and lets consumers know what other people are thinking. “The Internet is a primary source of health information for so many people today, and this new format provides a thoughtful and timely showcase for the important health-related work at USC, augmenting our print publications, media relations and marketing activities,” noted Jane Brust, associate vice president for Health Sciences Public Relations and Marketing and Keck School associate dean. “With USC Health Now, we have a creative vehicle for our faculty to communicate about their work and also address other health stories making national headlines, while building consumer awareness of USC’s health expertise.” Each new edition of USC Health Now will be emailed to subscribers on Monday mornings. Subscribers can read through the new stories and search an archive of stories from USC publications on related topics. The site also features a “Find A Doctor” link and a contact email that will connect directly with USC Health Now staff. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to subscribe and spread the word among colleagues, family and friends. Ideas for future stories and topics to cover may be directed to medical editor Monika Guttman at ehealth@usc.edu.
