ATTRACTIVE, TAMPER-PROOF SAMPLES THANKS TO THE CARDING® PROCESS BASED ON SURLYN® FILM
31 October 2003 - DuPont Engineering Polymers

Bulgari’s Omnia perfume promotional samples in mini spray bottles are very popular amongst consumers. These little gifts are now presented in a new, extremely attractive Carding® package made from DuPont™ Surlyn® film.

This innovative concept, introduced by Gauthier Imprimeur, owner of the Carding® trademark in France, allows an article to be packaged in a transparent window between two layers of film, without any visible attachment to the support card. As a result, the article can be turned around and viewed perfectly from all angles. The film also has an attractive shiny surface, which enhances the product, and provides a decorative frame on both sides with plenty of space for printing.

Gauthier print and cut the card, then the film is bonded onto it and the cavity is moulded by thermo-forming during packaging. This process is made possible through the use of Surlyn® resin, as this is the only material which offers the right properties, notably good creep and puncture resistance. The latter benefit also makes the package totally tamper-proof. Finally, thanks to the excellent resistance to abrasion of Surlyn®, no particular precautions need to be taken to protect the Carding® packages during storage and transport.
