MORE CLARITY FOR CONVENTIONAL BLOWN FILM WITH AIR COOLING
20 August 2003 - Borealis A/S

Unveiled in co-operation with Kiefel Extrusion GmbH at June's prestigious NPE show in Chicago, Borealis' new Borclear polypropylene grade overcomes conventional PP limitations in blown film. Borclear RB707CF delivers superior optical properties in combination with good processability and excellent stiffness/tenacity balance, and is intended for co-extrusion as sealing layer.

Borealis has recently developed a new class of polypropylenes called Borclear. The latest innovation of this unique random/terpolymer family is the grade Borclear RB707CF, which was unveiled at the world's largest plastics and elastomers show NPE in Chicago June 23-27 2003 in co-operation with the KIRION® blown film extrusion line of machinery producer KIEFEL Extrusion GmbH. The new Borclear grade has been specially designed for conventional blown film technology with air-cooling. Up to now the majority of PP grades were quite limited in this kind of processing technology due to their poor processability, low tenacity and especially poor optical properties. With Borclear RB707CF these limitations are now overcome.

Borclear RB707CF delivers good processability with MFR of 1.8 g/10 min

Superior optics in the blown film process (gloss/haze)

Good mechanical property balance stiffness/tenacity – especially in combination with Borsoft SA233CF (tough Random-heterophasic copolymer) and Borealis BB213CF, BHC5012 (block copolymers)

Excellent bonding to metallocene catalyst (MC)-PE grades

Very good sealability/seal strength

Borclear RB707CF brings benefits to multi layer films in a number of ways:

MC-LL / Borclear RB707CF / MC-LL
Mostly used for all kinds of “Form, Fill and Seal” films with excellent optics and superior sealability (eg bread bags, lamination film, general packaging film)

Borclear RB707CF / Borsoft SA233CF / Borclear RB707CF
Mostly used for transparent applications with good heat resistance, good tenacity and sealability (eg transparent stand up pouches, medical/hygienic films)

Borclear RB707CF / Borealis BB213CF / Borclear RB707CF
Mostly used for transparent, sterilisable applications with higher heat resistance or label.

Headquartered in Worms/Germany, KIEFEL Extrusion GmbH (www.Kiefel-extrusion.com) is one of the leading full system suppliers of high quality blown film extrusion equipment. Their production range includes extruders with diameters from 30 to 120 mm, single to 7 layer die heads and take-offs as well as a wide range of winders for layflat widths up to 3300 mm.
