NEW AXESS CHAIR USES DUPONT™ DELRIN® FOR COMFORT, STYLE AND STRENGTH
20 January 2003 - DuPont Engineering Polymers

Axess2, Stage Systems’ latest British designed and made chair, employs a flexible support for the backrest and seat using DuPont Delrin® acetal resin.

The use of Delrin® to achieve all functions of safe stacking, easy linking and simple assembly also helps create a highly attractive appearance.

Stage Systems, based in Loughborough (UK), is a provider of equipment solutions for auditoria, theatres, studios and multi-purpose halls. When the company decided to make improvements to its Axess chair, it sought the help of the Renfrew design group, Leicester. The new design includes an injection-moulded support, removing the need for bracketry and associated weld assembly, while allowing a more modern design, easier assembly and reduced costs.

When the support of the Axess2 was tested by FIRA, the Furniture Industry Research Association, they awarded the support moulded in Delrin® the highest possible safety standard – in fact, its report quoted that 'the result was nothing less than amazing'. The support took FIRA’s test rig off the scale at 3,200 newtons when the seat was loaded, an equivalent to 54 stones.

Axess2 also exceeds the requirements of BS 4875 (2001), Part 1, test Level 5, relating to severe contract use. Summarising its findings on Axess2, FIRA’s structural test department called it ‘a truly innovative product with a well thought out design and quality materials’.

The Axess2 chairs, launched in October 2002, stack up to 25 high and can be retro fitted with a range of snap-fit accessories, including seat and row numbers, book and pad supports and hinged armrests. Upholstery is available in a series of colours to suit décor. More information is available from Stage Systems on 01509 611021 or info@stagesystems.co.uk
