ECO-TECH LAUNCHED BY ESAB
18 June 2007 - ESAB Group

A new anti-spatter spray, Eco-Tech, that has a number of advantages compared with old-style sprays containing dichloromethane has been launched by ESAB. Eco-Tech is highly effective, does not harm workers' health or damage the environment, and will alleviate fears about insurers not providing public liability cover (which can happen when sprays are used containing carcinogenic dichloromethane).

Welders who do not currently use any anti-spatter spray will find that it can substantially reduce the time that is currently wasted having to clean welds by chipping, scraping, grinding or sanding.

Available in handy 300ml cans, the spray is excellent at preventing adhesion of weld spatter during MIG welding, manual metal arc welding or robotic welding and is suitable for use with both ferrous and non-ferrous fabrications, with no risk of porosity formation. Unlike some other sprays, Eco-Tech does not evaporate quickly, so it remains in place with no need for re-application during welding. As such, it is considerably more economical to use.

Furthermore, the spray contains no silicone, is water-washable, and therefore does not cause problems during painting, plating, galvanising, powder coating or any other post-processing.

Eco-Tech spray is classified as non-toxic, is safe if it comes into contact with skin and produces no fumes or combustion residues. It is also non-combustible, uses pure air as the propellant, and contains no solvents, so it presents no hazard in the workplace or to the environment. When the can is spent, it can be disposed of safely via existing recycling schemes or with other non-hazardous waste.
