ALCAN SELLS TYRE COMPRESSOR LINE

Alcan Inc announced today that is has agreed to sell the compressor line at Alcan BDW Gmbh & Co. KG, Markt Schwaben to Ventrex Automotive Gmbh of Graz. The deal is expected to be finalised on October 1st 2002.

The compressor line, which serves different applications in the automotive market is not a strategic product line for Alcan Automotive. The much larger die-casting activities at Alcan Automotive in Market Schwaben are not affected by this transaction.

Alcan Automotive will focus on expanding innovative lightweight solutions in attractive high growth market segments. “We will concentrate on offering our European and North American key-customers our know-how, aluminium technologies and our manufacturing capabilities where we offer a real competitive advantage” says Wolfgang J. Schmitz, Vice President, Alcan Automotive Engineered Shaped Products.

Ventrex Automotive GmbH has been in the tyre repair system market for many years. Their product line now includes seat compressors for height adjustment, compact air compressor units as well as fully automatic solutions for emergency tyre repair. Wolfgang J. Schmitz commented “In Ventrex, we found a purchaser who will offer excellent service to the present customers of the compressor line”
