RAD HAS COMPLETED INTEROPERABILITY TESTING OF ITS TDM PSEUDOWIRE TECHNOLOGY WITH BROADLIGHT, A LEADING VENDOR OF PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK SOLUTIONS
10 June 2007 - RAD Data Communications Ltd

By using RAD and Broadlight's combined technologies, service providers will be able to deploy gigabit PON fiber access networks that support 'triple play' voice, video and data applications and T1/E1 voice, leased line and Frame Relay services.

The cost-optimized, end-to-end TDM pseudowire solution enables standards-compliant, transparent delivery of TDM services through central office and customer premises GPON equipment. The two companies estimate that the requirement for T1/E1-based services over GPON will reach a total of more than 250,000 terminals serving small and medium business worldwide by 2008.

The joint solution is based on BroadLight's BL2000 integrated GPON System on Chip and RAD's standards-based TDM pseudowire technology. The solution will enable one to four E1/T1 ports on the Optical Network Termination side and circuit emulation aggregation at up to STM-1/OC-3 rates (155 Mbps) at the Optical Local Termination in the central office. RAD and BroadLight are co-marketing the pseudowire-over-GPON solution to telecommunications system vendors and service providers worldwide.

Minimizes Maintenance and Operating Costs'TDM pseudowire technology, developed and pioneered by RAD, is an evolutionary approach for transporting circuit-switched telephony and legacy data over IP and Gigabit Ethernet networks,' explains Jacky Acoca, Business Development Manager at RAD Data Communications. 'It transparently converts E1 or T1 TDM circuits into IP packets for transmission over high performance next generation networks,' he continues. 'By maintaining all the features and functionality of TDM telephony end-to-end across the network, pseudowire technology is able to deliver voice, fax, modem and data services over IP networks without compromising quality.'

'The combination of GPON and TDM pseudowire technology simplifies the integration and time-to-market of legacy equipment and services with fiber optic access networks,' says Doron Tal, Director of Product Marketing at BroadLight. 'Using pseudowire to transport TDM traffic significantly reduces design costs and complexity of OLT and ONT systems, allowing carriers to rapidly deploy GPON networks supporting a complete range of telecommunications services.'
