GROWING TREND IN RUSSIA TOWARDS PSEUDO-WIRE CIRCUIT EMULATION SOLUTIONS OVER IP SEEN BY RAD
14 June 2007 - RAD Data Communications Ltd
| RAD Data Communications, the industry leader in legacy-over-packet switched networks, sees a growing trend in Russia towards pseudo-wire circuit emulation solutions over IP, Ethernet and MPLS backbones. |
'Pseudo-wire emulation technology extends voice or data circuits across packet networks simply, transparently and economically,' notes Gregory Baranov, General Manager of RAD Russia. 'It is transparent to all protocols and signaling, and therefore supports legacy PBXs, including proprietary features,' he explains. 'Russian enterprises, utilities and government agencies, in particular, are demonstrating increasing interest in pseudo- wire solutions because they minimize maintenance and operating costs by running voice, data and video over IP/Ethernet-based networks.' Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Company, for example, one of the world's leading integrated metallurgical companies, has deployed RAD's Gmux-2000 central site TDM over IP gateway and its IPmux-16, IPmux-14 and IPmux-11 TDMoIP gateways to implement a powerful, centralized monitored hierarchical solution on different network layers. The South Electricity Plant, which employs a hierarchical network topology, has deployed RAD's Megaplex2100 modular integrated access multiplexers equipped with ML-IP TDMoIP modules on its IP core, and Megaplex-2100 units equipped with E1 interfaces on its TDM core. In Samara, the city subway's security service deployed Megaplex-2100 modular integrated access multiplexers over a fiber optic core. It also equipped the Megaplex units with ML-IP TDMoIP modules, which support RAD's unique Resilient Fast Ethernet Ring technology. The RAD equipment was supplied by three local RAD partners in Russia: TIC, a RAD distributor and systems integrator, for the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Company project; Muvicom, another systems integrator and authorized RAD distributor for the South Electricity Plant; and Sovtel, a systems integrator, for the Samara subway. 'RAD's TDMoIP product line offers all the building blocks for all possible networking scenarios,' Baranov concludes. These scenarios include pure Ethernet in the first mile, where TDM is delivered to a legacy network from the point-of-presence, peer-to-peer leased lines over packet networks, and, delivering concentrated TDM traffic at the contact point between the Ethernet packet network and legacy backbone. Sole Vendor With Successful DeploymentRAD first introduced its patented TDM over IP technology to the market in 1999 with the launch of its IPmux family of TDMoIP gateways. Since that time, the number of TDMoIP E1/T1 ports it has shipped has steadily grown to exceed 40,000, which makes it the sole vendor with TDM-over-packet switched networking equipment successfully deployed in the field.
