FOOTPRINT PROVIDES ROBUST HALF KILOMETRE CABLE NETWORK FOR KPN
30 July 2007 - Autotype International
| The latest FootPrint graphics films, manufactured by MacDermid Autotype, have been used to create a range of imaginative and eye-catching floor graphics at a new office building in Amersfoort in Holland for the Dutch telecoms and cable network provider, KPN. |
Designed to resemble cable conduit running under the floor in the centre of corridors and in office spaces, the floor graphics form a powerful representation of the company’s capabilities, while being bright, fun and long lasting. KPN is a leading supplier of telephone, mobile, internet and TV based services to both the consumer and business markets in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, employing almost 30,000 staff, with nearly seven million fixed line subscribers and over 20 million mobile customers. For its new offices in Amersfoort, the company wanted to create a stimulating and dynamic working environment, with visual references that underlined its core products and skills. KPN developed the cable conduit theme, with individual floor graphics panels being printed and fitted over a four day period; in total, Exposize eventually laid over half a kilometre of the 40cm wide panels. FootPrint was selected for the floor graphics as it provides a simple yet extremely effective medium through which to produce high definition images, and could easily be printed by Exposize using standard HP5500 inkjet printers and water-based inks. In addition, as FootPrint is reverse printed, the underlying image areas are protected by the hard wearing, scratch-proof outer layers, which are also capable of withstanding cleaning solvents and chemicals, and are slip-resistant. Once printed, FootPrint panels are laminated to MacDermid Autotype’s high traffic adhesive, making them easy to fit and reposition, yet remaining firmly in place once in use. Unlike traditional PVC substrates, that can stretch or distort, the polyester based FootPrint is exceptionally stable, making it ideal for use for the KPN panels; these had recurring patterns, which needed to be matched carefully together to create the impression of continuous runs of underfloor cabling. In addition to the cable conduit floor graphics, Exposize printed a range of panels for use in KPN’s canteen, where the objective was to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Exposize selected a red Persian rug style of design, with panels running across the floor area and continuing in a single strip up and over serving and seating areas.
