VALLEY BAPTIST HEALTH SYSTEM SELECTS GE HEALTHCARE’S CENTRICITY ENTERPRISE SOLUTION
17 August 2007 - AZDEL
| Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company and a leading provider of comprehensive clinical, financial and administrative information technology solutions announced today that Valley Baptist Health System will upgrade its existing IDX “LastWord” system to the Centricity Enterprise (formerly IDX Carecast) solution. Once complete, the implementation of Centricity Enterprise will provide caregivers with a complete and accurate view of a patient’s medical history electronically. |
Without the need to search for paper records, clinicians can not only save time but also utilize comprehensive tools and data to make more informed decisions about their patient’s care. “This initiative is about evidence-based medicine, integration, and easier access to healthcare and information,” said James G. Springfield, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Valley Baptist Health System. “We will transform the clinical processes at Valley Baptist with a goal of providing the highest quality of patient services in a seamless and transparent manner.” Centricity Enterprise is an integrated clinical, financial and administrative system that helps caregivers provide enhanced patient care through computerized physician order entry, clinical decision support and expert rules, while documenting all aspects of patient care. The system integrates core clinical processes for orders, results, pharmacy and care documentation, in concert with administrative/financial processes for scheduling, registration/admitting, charging and billing. Implementation of Centricity Enterprise at Valley Baptist will facilitate the collaboration of physicians throughout the Health System by providing access to patients’ medical records across its various organizations, including hospitals, physician practices and Valley Baptist’s rehabilitation programs. Additionally, physicians can log in from their offices, their homes or even while traveling by using the Internet, a secure login name and password. The multi-million dollar initiative will be completed in phases throughout Valley Baptist Health System over the next two years and is expected to completely transform the way clinicians practice. As part of the initiative, Valley Baptist will integrate the Centricity Enterprise Solution with Streamline Health’s enterprise suite of document workflow solutions to deliver enhanced and cost-effective business process improvements. “This is a total re-engineering of the way we practice from the clinical standpoint,” said James M. Barbaglia, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Valley Baptist. “We are making this investment because we want to provide a greater service to the community by providing greater patient safety and greater technology.”
