ASHLAND HIGH MODULUS RESILIENT RESIN AVAILABLE
06 October 2004 - Ashland Inc

Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group within Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc., has developed a resin for composites that virtually eliminates paint popping in OEM paint ovens. AROTRAN® HMR resin also can be used in low-density formulations that can reduce weight by up to 20 percent.

AROTRAN HMR resin was developed by Ashland to create a low-density capable, high modulus resilient resin that maintains structural integrity and durability and meets the existing specifications of automobile and truck manufacturers.

'Parts molded with sheet molding compound containing AROTRAN HMR resin resist paint popping in OEM paint ovens. The parts also are more resistant to cracking and crazing,' said Scott Hoertz, global marketing director, Ashland Composite Polymers. 'These desirable features make this resin perfect for automobile and truck composite applications.'

Ashland will have a demonstration part on display at its booth, #718, at the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) trade show, Oct. 6-8 in Tampa, Fla., to illustrate the benefits of its AROTRAN HMR resin.
