13 February 2004 - Ashland Inc

APAC-Atlantic, Inc. announced today that its business unit in Virginia has sold the assets from its Tidewater Branch to Colas, Inc. The sale consists of two asphalt plants in Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, as well as associated mobile equipment.

The announcement was made by Garry M. Higdem, president of Ashland Paving And Construction, Inc., the parent corporation of the APAC group of companies. The sale price was not disclosed.

'With the divesture the Tidewater Branch, our Virginia operation will now focus on gaining work along the I-95 and I-81 corridors,' Higdem said. To that end, the Virginia operation has acquired a portable asphalt plant from APAC-Atlantic's Coastal Carolina business unit. The portable plant will be located near I-95 in Doswell, which is about 20 miles north of Richmond.

As the nation's premier transportation construction enterprise, the APAC group of companies operates in 14 Southern and Midwestern states. APAC's assets consist of 96 aggregate production facilities, including 35 permanent operating quarry locations; 65 ready-mix concrete plants; 239 hot-mix asphalt plants; and more than 15,000 pieces of mobile equipment. The APAC companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of Ashland Inc.
