Scott Simmers was honored as Liaison of the Year and Nancy Neininger was named Consultant of the Year. Both are employees of Ashland Specialty Chemical's Composite Polymers business group and are based in Dublin. Simmers, who has been involved with Junior Achievement for 10 years, was recognized for his work with Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in the Columbus suburb of Clintonville. As a liaison between JA and this school, one of Simmers' primary responsibilities was recruiting, training and coordinating parent volunteers to teach the JA curriculum. In addition, he coordinated the school's participation in JA's Exchange City. With Simmers' help, Our Lady of Peace was the second school in Ohio to participate in this mini-city concept. In addition to his activities as a liaison, Simmers also teaches a JA class for third graders at Liberty Elementary in the Worthington school district. Neininger has volunteered for the past four years to teach the JA curriculum to second graders at Britton Elementary School in the Hilliard school district. The program she has been teaching is called 'Our Community,' which demonstrates to students how a community works. During her tenure as a JA volunteer, Neininger also created a 'How to be a millionaire' game to use as a review at the end of the lessons. In addition, she has recruited other volunteers and has served as a JA liaison for the school's second- and third-grade classes. 'We are very proud of Scott and Nancy and offer them our warm congratulations for this well-deserved recognition. They are representative of so many Ashland employees who generously donate their time and resources to help make the community a better place for all of us,' said Larry Baker, vice president of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company and general manager of the Composite Polymers business group.
