ASHLAND INC. NAMES TALEGHANI VICE PRESIDENT OF PURCHASING AND LOGISTICS

| Suzanne Taleghani has been named vice president, purchasing and logistics for Ashland Inc., according to David J. D’Antoni, Ashland Inc. senior vice president and group operating officer. Taleghani replaces J. Thomas King, a 31-year veteran, who will retire in the spring of 2003.

In this position, Taleghani will be responsible for the procurement of a broad array of materials and services used in Ashland’s businesses, including raw materials and feedstocks for Ashland Specialty Chemical and The Valvoline Company. She will be responsible for company-wide purchasing of such diverse items as computers, vehicles and travel services, as well as the daily management of sourceXplorer, Ashland’s on-line purchasing service for non-production goods. Taleghani’s most recent assignment was with The Gillette Company where she was a vice president, managing global procurement, as well as a manager of various corporate initiatives and projects designed to increase profitability and financial recovery. Prior to her employment with Gillette, Taleghani spent six years with Renault IV, managing chassis systems, including procurement and value analysis. She also has extensive experience in supply chain and manufacturing operations with such companies as Black & Decker and General Electric. She has worked with various management consultants, including A.T. Kearney, Booz-Allen, and McKinsey. A native of New York state, she received her bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1984, and a masters degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1999, she participated in the general management program for global leadership at Harvard University.
