ASHLAND INC. CAPTURES NATIONAL AWARD
“The annual report is produced by a writing and design team who work very hard each year on this important project,” said J. Dan Lacy, vice president, Ashland Inc. corporate affairs. “It is gratifying that the team’s work and dedication is once again receiving national attention.” The NAIC, based in Madison Heights, Mich., chooses winning annual reports from 87 different industry categories - - from aerospace to water utilities - - each year. The awards are judged on the completeness and clarity of financial and narrative content, as well as inviting and easy-to-read design. The Ashland Inc. annual reports of 1982, 1983, 1996 and 1997 each received a Nicholson Award from the NAIC. “The annual report is extremely important because it provides critical financial information for investor and regulatory audiences, and is a resource for potential investors by providing a glimpse into our company’s culture and future goals,” Lacy said. “Our annual report is the cornerstone of our company’s communications efforts, and NAIC’s recognition is a welcome honor to our team.” The 2001 Ashland annual report was produced with design assistance from Inc Design of New York, N.Y. It was printed by The Hennegan Co. of Florence, Ky. An annual report is a formal financial statement issued yearly by a corporation that includes descriptions of operations, financial facts such as assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and earnings; and other information for shareholders and the financial community. Ashland Inc. is scheduled to issue its newest annual report, for fiscal year 2002, to its shareholders in mid-December, as its fiscal year is Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.
