SWEET RESULTS FOR AUTOTYPE
01 July 2003 - Autotype International
| In recognition of its international reputation within photographic education the Arts Institute in Bournemouth was selected by the Government to pilot the first ever vocational BA(Hons) Foundation Degree in Professional Photography and this year sees the first set of students graduating from the course. |
The 21 final year students will be showcasing their work at The Old Truman Brewery, London, 10-14 July as an integral part of their final year studies. This exhibition named ‘Sweet’, will allow students to demonstrate their work both to the industry and to potential employers. The Professional Photography degree students approached a number of companies to help them develop leading edge solutions from the latest technology. Autotype was among the commercial organisations chosen to help students present their work in large format display, and the company’s technicians worked closely with students to ensure they achieved optimum results when using SIGMAGraF hard coat ink jet anti-glare and matt film. The SIGMAGraF media is being used to create high quality images from both traditional film and digital originals, with students producing work in formats of up to 1m x 1m. SIGMAGraF films provide exceptionally vibrant colour and fine definition, thus helping the students to improve still further the impact of their work - a feature enhanced by the ability to add backlighting. Competing display techniques often suffer from the poor transparency of laminates and adhesives used, directly affecting the colour brilliance of the display. SIGMAGraf however, is unusual, in that images are printed on the reverse side of the material which, in turn, offers exceptional image clarity. In addition to display graphics, the students will also be using Autotype's FootPrint film to produce the Sweet logo for large floor graphics, positioned in high footfall areas throughout the gallery space and also on staircases leading to the exhibits. Simon Jones, Product Manager - Display Graphics at Autotype comments, 'This is an exciting initiative that allows us to communicate with the next generation of industry experts. This exercise has enabled the students to experiment and familiarise themselves with our films and to recognise the way in which these products can bring about optimum results in an industry where presentation is everything.'
