OMNI COLOUR CUTS TURNAROUND TIMES WITH AUTOTYPE’S SIGMAGRAF FILM
02 December 2002 - Autotype International

The quality and robustness of Autotype’s SIGMAGraF film has helped Omni Colour Presentations Ltd cater for a broad range of client requirements. More significantly, it has helped the company to cut turnaround times and reduce production costs.

It’s all about word of mouth. Customer testimonials can reinforce a reputation for quality of service and lead to important new business. For Peter O’Neill, Systems Manager at Omni Colour Presentations Ltd, any competitive advantage that encourages his customers to recommend his company’s service is a good thing, including Autotype’s SIGMAGraF film, which the company uses to create pop-up graphics and instant display systems.

If a customer talks to his contemporaries about the quality of a job we’ve done using SIGMAGraF, then it can often lead to new business, Peter explains. Omni Colour started using Autotype’s hardcoated textured polyester film nearly two years ago following a problematic period using traditional reverse-print polycarbonate films.

The other products, Peter notes, were stiffer and harder to work with compared to Autotype’s SIGMAGraF film, which meant they were easily damaged and more sensitive to manhandling. This became a problem when we were running 2.2-metre drops that were being damaged during finishing. If we had to run them again, we incurred unplanned production time and additional costs.

Peter acknowledges that the flexible but tough SIGMAGraF film not only met Omni Colour’s stringent production requirements but also had a significant impact on its turnaround. Since the handling and finishing is better with SIGMAGraF, its much easier to work with, which can shorten turnaround times by up to 10%. This can be crucial if a customer wants a job done quickly.

Autotype’s SIGMAGraF film brings together an unbeatable combination of colour accuracy and image protection by incorporating an ink-jet receptive underside onto which images are printed. The tough scratch and solvent resistant surface also features a unique textured matt finish, which does not contain 'filler' materials. This gives SIGMAGraF film a high level of optical clarity compared to other products, ensuring graphics are vibrant, and display systems are tough enough to be used over and over again.

Omni Colour, which is based in London, provides an extensive range of portable and compact displays, exhibitions and retail graphic systems, relying on SIGMAGraF as its core ink jet media for banners and pop-up systems.

Originally, Omni Colour relied on SIGMAGraF supplied in 914mm rolls, but as Peter notes, Omni Colour is set to increase its use of the textured finish film by employing a wider option that offers increased flexibility and customer choice. The only problem was that we thought SIGMAGraF only came in 914mm rolls . In fact, it’s also available in 1,230mm rolls, which means we can use it for a broader range of jobs. This, along with its robustness and colour accuracy, means more of our customers will be able to benefit from using SIGMAGraF.
