AUTOTYPE’S DISPLAY GRAPHICS FUEL RAILWAY ADVERTISING IN JAPAN
04 September 2002 - Autotype International
| Tokyo-based Adonis Total Advertising Agency is set to enjoy a busy autumn with over 60 Japanese railway stations planning to use its services to provide new advertising opportunities. |
The recent upsurge in promotional wall and floor space provided by railway stations has been sparked by the image clarity and hard-wearing characteristics of Autotype’s SIGMAGraF and FootPrint floor graphic systems, and the ban on vinyl systems imposed by the Japanese railways authorities. The move away from vinyl based display materials is intended to safeguard the environment and the public against toxins produced during the production and burning of vinyl. The legislation reflects the danger of intoxication during station fires and the inherent risk associated with the disposal of displays and manufacturing by-products by incineration. Adonis, which specialises in railway network advertising, fitted 15 stations with Autotype solutions in 2001. The systems are 100% polyester based and are therefore fully compliant with current Japanese legislation. Keith Ravenscroft, Autotype’s Export Sales Manager, revealed that Adonis’s packed order books reflect the growing popularity of polyester-based graphic display systems. 'Our display graphic systems are extremely versatile and are the ideal solution for bright displays in busy public places. The ban on vinyl and the inherent qualities of our systems have greatly increased demand. The railways like them and - just as importantly - consumers have received the graphics extremely well.' Most of Adonis’s work involves providing floor-signage advertising for consumer goods and many of the images appear on ceramic tiled surfaces in well-populated areas. With its outstanding durability and excellent graphic reproduction, FootPrint provided the ideal solution for these graphics. For underground maps and signs, Adonis use Autotype’s SIGMAGraF durable, inkjet display system, featuring a chemical and scratch-resistant surface that is ideal for high wear station environments. In both instances, Autotype’s advanced technological processes create media that can be imaged using standard ink-jet printers to produce high-quality graphics that are easy to apply and remove. Autotype’s graphics have helped Adonis increase their business threefold, by offering an outstanding combination of high-quality graphics in a safer and more robust package. Ravenscroft added: 'The response to our display-graphic solutions has been tremendous; a true advertising renaissance in these busy environments which we hope will be emulated in other countries too.'
