NEW AUTOTYPE TECHNOLOGY OFFERS CLEAN, FAST TURNAROUND FOR LASER PRINT JOBS
19 July 2002 - Autotype International
| The UK’s leading supplier of laser-printer based solutions to the pre-press market, Info-Tec Distribution Ltd is championing the latest generation of pre-press plates for laser printers from Autotype as the ideal in-house solution for small printing companies. |
Called OMEGA Fast, the new product is a high-quality, cost-effective polyester offset plate for single or spot colour jobs that can be used with any laser printer; removing the need for companies to invest in special equipment. In addition to removing the need for new hardware, the plate is surprisingly affordable, being extremely competitively priced. As such, it is ideal as an entry-level product for a wide range of print applications. 'OMEGA Fast is ideal for companies that do not want to invest in a more specialised or dedicated laser printer. It can be used by almost any printing company as long as they have a laser printer,' says Ian Melville, Managing Director of Info-Tec Distribution Ltd. 'Rather than splashing out £30,000 on new hardware, OMEGA Fast allows companies to produce plates on their existing technology. The investment to printers is minimal but the results are outstanding.' OMEGA Fast is suitable for use with almost any type of laser printer including models from Xanté and the HP5000, both identified as perfect tools for the job. OMEGA Fast was launched at the beginning of 2002 to replace the OMEGA E-Z plate. The main difference between the new OMEGA Fast over the OMEGA E-Z plate is that it doesn’t need ‘prepping’ - the plate can go straight onto the printing press. This presents an enormous advantage to many small printers operating in the industry today. 'With the previous OMEGA you had to prep the plate, which basically meant you image the plate from the laser printer but you had to wipe it with a messy, white, chalky solution to clean off excess toner before it went to the printing press. This is a step that has been eliminated with OMEGA Fast,' Ian says. 'It saves time and it saves money, because you don’t have to buy in the solution. It also makes for a cleaner operation, and for graphic designers, many of which work within small print shop and clean commercial environments, not having to use messy solutions or harmful chemicals is important. In addition, the new OMEGA Fast plate has superior handling characteristics to the predecessor, achieving high print quality.' Many small companies do small runs and by offering the facility for extremely quick changeover, OMEGA Fast allows for extremely high levels of productivity. There is no middle stage to the plate making process – the graphic designer can generate a plate very simply and ‘pop’ it on the press, achieving start up within ten prints. Info-Tec Distribution report that the transition between the old and the new version has been very smooth. The take up rate for the new OMEGA Fast plate has been fantastic, says Ian. A testimony to the effectiveness of this product.
