AUTOTYPE INTERNATIONAL HELPS SET NEW STANDARD IN SCREEN PRINTING
05 September 2001 - Autotype International
| After ten years of research and development, a new ISO standard, ISO 12647, has been approved for four-colour screen printing. Instigated by the Screen Printing Association (SPA UK) and supported by other leading authorities in the printing industry, including Autotype International, the new standard is designed to provide a thorough assessment of production procedure.

The standard, which applies to paper, board and plastics on CMYK process colour, includes definitions and measuring procedures for film image quality, tone value limits, grey balance, colour values, and tone value increase. By highlighting ways in which screen printing processes can best be exploited, Autotype International hopes that ISO 12647 will give print professionals a higher degree of print control, in turn offering improved reproduction, less time and material wastage, consistent quality, and shorter production times. Simon Jones, Product Manager at Autotype International, says: 'By providing a full latitude of choice on materials, equipment and processes, it is hoped that the standard will allow screen printing to match the same commercial level of maturity as other printing methods, while maintaining a competitive edge over processes such as digital print.' Jones added, 'As a world leader in the development of screen making materials we are delighted to have played a role in the conception and development of ISO 12647 and together with the SPA UK, we will continue to develop and promote the standard throughout the industry.'
