IN-MOULD DECORATION WORKSHOP A SUCCESS AT AUTOTYPE
15 June 2001 - Autotype International
| Autotype International Limited, the Wantage based manufacturer of specialist films and associated products for screen printing, digital display printing and industrial print applications hosted a one day seminar for leading technical and marketing managers on behalf of the European Screen Printing Manufacturers Association (ESMA). |
The workshop was staged to provide ESMA members with an overview of In-Mould Decoration (IMD), the ground-breaking process for making a wide array of product housings. The workshop was attended by representatives from organisations such as FESPA, Kissel & Wolf, Sun Chemical, Saati and Fotec and was designed to provide delegates with a deeper understanding of the technologies involved in the IMD process and to overview current market opportunities. The 19 delegates were treated to seminars presented by some of the world's leading IMD experts, who explained not only the fundamentals, features and advantages of IMD, but also the future trends, ink requirements and economics involved. Tim Wright (Autotype) explained the stages involved in the IMD process and possible future markets, Keith Ramsey (Coates) spoke specifically about ink requirements for successful IMD, and Chris Hills (RHTI) discussed the opportunities and pitfalls associated with developing the process. In essence, IMD can be applied in the manufacture of a wide variety of products, most particularly mobile phones, automotive interiors and displays and housings for white goods. The process offers versatile decorative effects and durable surfaces, while providing significant cost reductions through component integration. Two years ago, Autotype opened a department dedicated to IMD to conduct research into the new, state-of-the-art technology and provide training facilities for Autotype customers.
