FOOTPRINT FLOOR GRAPHICS SYSTEM PAVES THE WAY TO PACHINKO
12 September 2000 - Autotype International

The FootPrint floor graphics system from Autotype International Ltd is being used across Japan, as a valuable promotional tool for Pachinko, the latest gaming craze to hit the country.

In essence, Pachinko is a cross between a slot machine and pinball, with Autotype’s FootPrint system being used in the entrances to Pachinko parlours and in the playing area itself, to encourage players to enter the parlour.

FootPrint is a highly scratch and slip resistant material, developed specifically for applying high quality graphics directly to floor areas. FootPrint has excellent clarity and image resolution combined with a high degree of transparency, and can be produced in every size and image/text combination, factors that are ideal for the colourful Pachinko environment.

Although the original Pachinko game itself appeared in Japan in the early 20’s it has now become a symbol of high technology and is enjoyed by adults across the country. The Pachinko market in Japan is worth nearly $200 million per annum, with Pachinko parlours noted for being bright and colourful.

The Autotype FootPrint floor graphics system helps to contribute to this perception, welcoming visitors to the parlour in graphics that are typically 3m x 2.5m in size, rectangular or elliptical in shape and printed in Japanese script.

The FootPrint System has passed the ASTM test D2047 for skid resistance of floor surfaces. This is an important factor in its use in Pachinko Parlours where in the summer months humidity can reach as much as 70%. The clarity of the image is another factor in the use of FootPrint, as there is no intermediate adhesive to compromise the quality of the graphic and so the image is enhanced.

FootPrint is notable for the ease of preparation, it is available in screen printable and inkjet versions. The image layer is simply reverse printed to the adhesive and then is ready to be applied to the floor.

Peter Levinsohn, Chairman of Autotype International (Asia) commented, 'We are confident that the FootPrint system is providing a high quality and hard-wearing floor graphic, that is helping to attract players into the Pachinko Parlours. We expect the use of FootPrint to continue to expand throughout Asia, and indeed the world.'
