LEADING ART CENTRE GOES FOR OMEGA E-Z

The Dundee Contemporary Art centre opened in 1999 as a unique facility to enable artists to create and present work in one site. The centre consists of state of the art facilities and is supported by the Dundee City Council and the Scottish Government. The aim of the centre is to bring art to the community, as well as to be a catalyst for experimentation.

Due to the Centre’s open access policy, only the safest procedures can be used during its regular training sessions and demonstrations. Up to now, this policy ruled out the use of traditional lithography because of its lengthy processes and its reliance on solvents – until the centre discovered OMEGA E-Z polyester plates from Autotype. When the OMEGA E-Z plates were introduced earlier this year, their potential was instantly recognised as a safer alternative to traditional methods.

The OMEGA E-Z system is a new generation of polyester plate which can be imaged through any laser printer, without the need for post fusion or special chemicals. OMEGA E-Z is ideal for single spot colour work with run lengths of 5,000 prints and is suitable for use with all standard inks. The system’s versatility, cost-effectiveness and simplicity was immediately recognised by Dundee Contemporary Art and OMEGA E-Z plates were successfully used for workshops of all age groups, using a variety of imaging systems ranging from photocopiers to biros! This is ideal for children as they can develop their spontaneity, while adults can be introduced to more sophisticated methods, also compatible with OMEGA E-Z.

Natalie Russell Cameron of Dundee Contemporary Art explains: - “We identified the system following a visit from Autotype’s distributor Imaging Direct, and were impressed by how spontaneous and uncomplicated the process was. As a practising artist, I aim to develop my knowledge of this excellent medium further and I am now experimenting with tushe washes and printing procedures. OMEGA E-Z has definitely made a difference to the accessibility of lithography to all age groups”.
