EUREKA STATUS FOR CPS COLOR
Thermocolor is an automated tinting system, being developed for use with extruded and injection moulded thermoplastics, that eliminates the need for masterbatches and pre-mixing dry pigments, which are the traditional methods of colouring thermoplastic materials. The Thermocolor project focuses on the in-line mixing of coloured pastes into plastics to achieve an unlimited number of colours. It is an integrated, automated process for dispensing solvent-free, single pigment pastes during conventional extrusion and injection moulding processes. Virtually any colour shade can be produced at the touch of a button and 99 percent of all colouring requirements can be met quickly, reliably and reproducibly. EUREKA is a pan-European network for market-oriented, industrial Research and Development. For an R&D project to be credited with EUREKA status it is required to be both high-tech and market-oriented. It must involve partners from at least two of EUREKA’s 34 member countries and be directed towards developing a cutting edge product, process or service for non-military application. With EUREKA status comes a European subsidy towards the project’s research and development costs. According to Erik van Beusekom, Regional Sales Manager for CPS COLOR: “We applied for EUREKA status about two years ago, at the start of the Thermocolor project. The requirements for obtaining it are quite demanding, but in December 2001 our project was chosen as one of the top four projects meeting the required innovation and feasibility criteria. Endorsement of the project not only means financial support, it is also recognition of the high quality of our research efforts. We are very proud and happy with this award.” EUREKA status was confirmed for the Thermocolor project at the 20th EUREKA Ministerial Conference held in Thessaloniki, Greece, earlier this week.
