DSM SOMOS® AT EUROMOLD 2002
30 November 2002 - DSM Somos
| DSM Somos®, leading technology innovators in the rapid prototyping (RP) materials industry, will be present at the EuroMold fair in Frankfurt, Germany (December 4th – December 7th 2002; Hall 9.1, Stand G56). Key events on the occasion of this year’s fair include:
|
New material announcements. The introduction of a new generation of high temperature and high humidity resistant resins: ProtoTherm™, the industry’s first stereolithography material to demonstrate high temperature resistance without the traditional fragility associated with similar SL high heat resistance materials. ProtoTool™, the first liquid-filled stereolithography material is forecast for commercialization in spring of 2003. On display for the first time will be milestone applications bound to significantly impact the prototyping and tooling industry. Report presented by Matthew Cantwell at Euro-uRapid (Dec 2&3, 2002 – Frankfurt Marriott Hotel): “A Look at How Stereolithography Parts Make Cents”. Material innovations which allow greater functionality and application use are drastically changing generally accepted perceptions regarding the window of opportunity for stereolithography materials. Matthew Cantwell explores four case studies which examine how design complexity, size and quantity affect the economics of using stereolithography versus silicone moulding or CNC processes. An exclusive European exhibition of Bathsheba original sculptures. Artwork by Bathsheba Grossman unites advanced mathematics and layer additive technologies to create unique metal sculptures. The exhibit features sculptures made directly from RP equipment and demonstrates the interesting beauty of Bathsheba’s inspirational play on geometry and light. The soft-white etched glass appearance of the artwork on display was obtained by creating the sculptures in Somos® WaterShed™ stereolithography material. Among the designs on display are large scale models of AlterKnot, Antipot, and Flow Bronze. Presentation of prototypes in ProtoFunctional® WaterShed™. Introduced to the market in August 2002, WaterShed™ is a strong, rigid, and optically clear stereolithography resin presenting many properties which mimic those of extrusion grade PBT and transparent grade ABS, two common plastics used in numerous automotive, electronic, medical, consumer and industrial applications. The material represents an industry first in water and humidity resistance, coupled with optimum workability and superior aesthetics. 4th December 2002 - Awards ceremony of the 2002 International ProtoFunctional® ,AllesKönner’ (Truly Functional) Design Competition. Sponsored jointly with the VDID (German Association of Industrial Designers), the competition has attracted global interest in both the accredited designers and students categories. German designer Professor Dieter Rams (Braun), will be presenting the winners. DSM Somos® is proud of its commitment to industry driven materials technology innovation. The events and innovations on display at the Euromold fair further distinguish the company and its philosophy of spearheading materials development which facilitates the transition of rapid prototyping into rapid manufacturing.
