BROOKFIELD RAPID SOLUTIONS USES SOMOS® PROTOFUNCTIONAL® RESIN FOR PROTOTYPING APPLE TITANIUM LAPTOP BATTERY CHARGER

Brookfield Rapid Solutions, a Hudson, New Hampshire service bureau, has utilized a new generation ProtoFunctional® resin, DSM Somos® 7120, to produce prototype models of a P12 battery charger for the Apple Titanium computer.

Somos® 7120, developed for use with Solid State Lasers, is part of the DSM Somos® 7100 series: humidity-tolerant, high heat-deflection-temperature, low curl, high-speed liquids that produce rigid, minimal bubble, high accuracy parts. It produces exceptional, undistorted, thin walls and down-facing surfaces and exhibits good processing latitude.

The P12 battery charger is one of the few commercially available battery chargers using the Dallas chip which identifies the battery chemistry and state of charge resulting in improved safety, charging speed, performance and battery life.

The Stereolithography prototyping process was chosen for the speed with which it enables evaluation of functional, marketing, and manufacturing issues. It also enables a very compressed product development process. This product went from concept to full production in only eleven weeks.
