AWARD FOR NEW MONDEO DEMONSTRATES THAT SAFETY IS NOT A LUXURY
26 October 2000 - Corus Automotive

The new Ford Mondeo was awarded the Corus IVehE Motor Show Award for Safety at a gala dinner attended by 500 leading personalities from the world's motor industry held on the eve of the British International Motor Show.

Commenting on the high degree of safety features throughout the Mondeo range, Mike Dickison of Tickford Engineering and chairman of the safety judging panel, said: 'Ford demonstrates that safety does not have to be a luxury add-on. Even the base model has the safety features normally associated with more expensive vehicles.

'The Mondeo is a significant breakthrough in the way a major carmaker has used its multi-billion dollar research capability to bring state-of-the-art safety benefits to more motorists.'

Mondeo's comprehensive and integrated safety package offers world class crash energy management in the main body structure. This is complemented by a host of safety features that work together to minimise the risk of accident injury.

Recognising safety as one of the biggest issues driving car design today, the judges were impressed by the increasingly high standard of safety being engineered by all manufacturers into their new models. This is reflected by the Motor Show Awards, supported by the SMMT, which have introduced the new Safety Award to highlight and reward the best life-saving engineering design innovations.
