PEUGEOT 206 COUPÉ CABRIOLET WINS ‘CAR OF THE SHOW’ FOR PUTTING FUN BACK INTO MOTORING
23 October 2000 - Corus Automotive

The Peugeot 206 Coupé Cabriolet won the Corus IVehE ‘Car of the Show’ Award for bringing the concept of fun-to-drive open-top convertibles to affordable sports coupés.

Looking for the vehicle that demonstrated a significant breakthrough in engineering design, the judging panel recognised that the sporty 2-litre challenges the common view that an affordable open variant of a small car requires a soft-top.

The award was presented at a gala dinner, attended by 500 leading personalities from the world’s motor industry, held on the eve of the British International Motor Show.

'A stylish folding hard-top is now available in this class of vehicle,' said Professor Jon King, director of Corus Automotive Engineering and president (2000/1) of the Institute of Vehicle Engineers. 'Peugeot has successfully challenged the norm, which could lead to many more people being able to enjoy the pleasure of open top motoring.'

'The Peugeot’s folding metal roof performs an effortless mechanical ballet as it transforms the chic coupé into a stylish roadster. Peugeot’s pursuit of design engineering excellence combines the security and safety of a hard-top with the fun of open top motoring – all at the touch of a button.'

The awards are run with the co-operation of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), which organises the motor show. They are the only awards to be judged by senior design engineers from within the automotive industry. The awards specifically look for vehicles that demonstrate design engineering excellence.
