15 September 2003 - Morgan Construction Company

Morgan do Brasil, of São Paulo, Brazil, a subsidiary of Morgan Construction Company, has completed the commissioning of a major upgrade of the coil handling area of a two-strand rod mill at Belgo Mineira TL01, in João Monlevade, MG, Brazil.

According to Ricardo V. Cruz, Sales Manager of Morgan do Brasil, 'The upgrade included the design, manufacture and installation of two horizontal compactors with a C-Hook system. The mechanical equipment was manufactured in Brazil, and the design and engineering work was performed at the company's Worcester, Mass., headquarters,' he said.

The coil-handling modernization is designed to improve the coil compacting and binding, he said, adding, 'We believe that this upgrade is an important step toward meeting Morgan's worldwide customers requirements.'

Jens Nylander, Sales Manager, Material Handling, added, 'This upgrade represents state-of-the-art material handling technology by Morgan. With this installation, we are solidifying our ambition of being the leading supplier of coil handling equipment, worldwide.'

The Belgo mill produces carbon steel rod in size ranges of 5.5mm to 16mm diameter at speeds of up to 90 meters per second, with its annual production currently around 700,000 metric tonnes.
