MORGAN COMMISSIONS AMERISTEEL MILL UPGRADE
22 July 2003 - Morgan Construction Company
| Morgan Construction Company, which recently installed an upgrade to the single-strand rod outlet at Gerdau Ameristeel's Jacksonville Steel Mill Division in Baldwin, Fla., has successfully completed its commissioning.
|
John Foley, General Manager, said that the upgrade included the design and installation of several pieces of equipment including a breakout box, three water boxes, equalization troughs and associated water control valves. He added, 'The new water boxes, fabricated from stainless steel for the Florida environment, replaced outdated equipment and improved alignment between the finishing mill and laying head. This allowed the mill to run more consistently at high speed.' The upgraded mill, he said, is designed to roll wire rods and reinforcing bar at speeds approaching 100 m/s or 20,000 ft/min.
